Question: Salam Sheikh I didn't get an answer. My question is my parents sell alcohol and lottery tickets and ciggeretts. I have warned them that this business is haram. But unfortunetly they are not the type of parents who have enough Imaan and will power to give the business up and look for an alternative. I am stuck in this situation because I have to work there as well. They have made excuses that we live in america and we have no choice but to do this business. Please answer my question and is my salah and fasting invalid now that I am stuck in this situation? I make dua every salah that Allah the almighty helps me get out of this situation because I live in parents home and I cannot move out at this time.
Answer:

It is your duty to get out of this business if you can and stand on your own feet without having to continue in this situation. Until you are able to do so, you may ask forgiveness of Allah and pray to Him to help you get out of this predicament. Allah is with those who strive to lead a righteous life: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "whoever clings to istighfaar Allah will appoint for him or her a way of exit out of all distressful situations and provide for them in ways they would not estimate in ordinary times."

So, never despair of your situation; you are not stuck in this situation; you can get out if you try hard enough.

Having said this, let me also remind you; The fact that you are forced to be in this business does not in any way render your fasts or prayers invalid. For in Islam the fact a person commits a sin does not mean that his prayers are invalidated, although ideally one should stay away from sins, to conform to the true spirit of prayer.
