Jumu'ah is the most important weekly assembly of Muslims. It is highly significant in terms of spiritual and social benefits; so both men and women are encouraged to attend it, unless they have valid excuses. The fact that Islam gave an allowance for women to skip jumu'ah for reasons based on compassion in lieu of their responsibilities at home, does not in any mean that they cannot do so--if they are free of such responsibilities. In fact, Muslim women during the Prophet were always present in the mosque from day number one. It was normally those who were burdened by their responsibilities of giving nurturing care to their children who were absent from the mosque.
